Adam Frisch, who registered as a Democrat in December 2021 and started campaigning just over four months ago, has won the Democratic primary in the 3rd Congressional District 3, the Associated Press reported Wednesday morning.

More than a dozen Democrats vied to be their party's nominee to replace Lauren Boebert, the incumbent Republican from Silt who is one of the most conservative and controversial members of Congress.

But it was Frisch, a businessman from Aspen, who won the primary by 1,394 votes with 43.4% of the electorate as of 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Pueblo community organizer Sol Sandoval lost with 40.9% of votes.

Sandoval won Pueblo County, much of Southern Colorado and the San Luis Valley, while Frisch predominated in most of the Western Slope.

Frisch didn't do much campaigning against his fellow Democrats in the race, but emphasized defeating Boebert in November.

Sandoval ran on her background as a community organizer and everyday Coloradan "who's lived through the same struggles that they have," her campaign website says.

Alex Walker, the third candidate in the race, received 15.7% of votes around the district and did not win any county.

"We didn't get the result we hoped for, but I am SO DAMN PROUD to have run for Congress," Walker tweeted Wednesday morning before the AP call was made. He added that he is "going to do everything I can" to help the winner to win in the general election.
