WASHINGTON – The House Oversight Committee, which Democratic lawmakers head, tweeted a Obama-era photo Tuesday to promote a hearing on the current treatment of migrants at facilities along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The tweet has since been deleted.
The image that was tweeted out promoted a hearing entitled: "Kids in Cages: Inhumane Treatment at the Border." The background photo, which was from June 2014, showed migrants fenced in a facility with silver emergency blankets.
Democratic lawmakers last week visited migrant facilities near El Paso, and decried the treatment of the children, women and men migrants. According to a report from the El Paso Times and the New York Times, that children in a migrant facility in Clint, Texas have been victims of outbreaks of scabies, shingles and chickenpox.
President Donald Trump's 2020 reelection campaign posted a screenshot of the now-deleted tweet.
"House Democrats are promoting their 'civil rights' hearing on 'kids in cages' and 'inhumane treatment' with a photo from 2014, when Joe Biden was Vice President," the tweet from Trump's campaign said. "So dishonest!"

Trump referred to the use of the "horrible picture" in a tweet of his own on Thursday, calling it "very embarrassing."
Democrats had to quickly take down a tweet called “Kids In Cages, Inhumane Treatment at the Border,” because the horrible picture used was from the Obama years. Very embarrassing! @foxandfriends— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 11, 2019
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee also pointed out that the photo was one take during the Obama Administration.
"You all know that’s a picture from 2014, right? Remind us who was President then," the Oversight Committee Republicans tweeted.
The same photo, along with others at the time, have been shared multiple times tying them to the Trump Administration, according to the Associated Press. The photos were taken in June 2014 and were first featured in the Arizona Republic, the AP reported.
