Members of the crowd at the Congressional Baseball Game in Washington on September 29 were heard urging Democrats to “hold the line” on their spending plans as a potential government shutdown loomed.

Video posted by Sarah Gwinn shows a crowd chanting and holding signs urging that a $3.5 trillion Democratic spending plan be approved.

The annual charity event at Nationals Park saw lawmakers from both side of the aisle face off, with the Republicans enjoying a narrow 13-12 win. At the game, President Joe Biden was seen talking with lawmakers, speaking on the phone, and handing out ice-cream.

There were hopes that a deadlock on Capitol Hill could be averted at least temporarily on September 30, the Washington Post said, with a vote to be held on “a short-term spending bill that would fund the government into early December”.
