Demonstrators Pray as They Protest Trump's Visit to Saint John Paul II National Shrine

Protesters gathered near the Saint John Paul II National Shrine, a Catholic shrine run by the Knights of Columbus, in Washington while President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited on Tuesday, June 2.

Footage uploaded to Twitter shows protesters praying the rosary, taking a knee, chanting “George Floyd,” and saying the prayer of St Francis.

Washington Archbishop Wilton D Gregory released a statement about President Trump’s visit to the Shrine, writing: “I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles, which call us to defend the rights of all people even those with whom we might disagree.” Credit: @Judy_Coode via Storyful
