Demonstrators Supporting Cuba Protests Block Miami Expressway

Protesters blocked traffic on the Palmetto Expressway in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday, July 13, to support anti-government demonstrations in Cuba, local media reported.

The protest was held near the intersection of Coral Way and Southwest 87th Avenue in Miami and eventually moved onto the nearby Palmetto Expressway, reports said.

The Miami-Dade Police Department tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that a protest blocking roadways is “unacceptable and illegal.”

Thousands took to the streets across Cuba to participate in protests on July 11, local media reported. Demonstrators marched in several cities to voice frustrations over the country’s handling of COVID-19, a rise in cases, and economic hardships exacerbated by the pandemic.
