Celebrity Gogglebox couple Denise Van Outen and Eddie Boxshall are feeling closer than ever in their seven-year relationship thanks to couples counselling.

The pair have been immersing themselves in various types of relationship therapy for their new podcast, Before We Say I Do.

Speaking on White Wine Question Time, Boxshall said that while there has been no official marriage proposal, going through the therapy has made him keener than ever to say ‘I do’.

“I'll be honest… Even more so now would I marry her after doing therapy sessions,” he told host Kate Thornton.

“I have come out the other side of those sessions and for me now, I'd marry her at the drop of a hat!”

Van Outen echoed Boxshall, admitting she’d love to walk down the aisle with him.

“I can't imagine myself being with anyone else — although sometimes I'd like to,“ she joked.

In the podcast, the couple try out some alternative therapies including laughter therapy and hypnosis, the latter of which the pair can hardly remember going through.

“We went under hypnosis and we had to be each other, but we still can't remember,” she admitted.

Eddie agreed, saying he 'vaguely remembered' parts of the session but that it was a really weird feeling.

“It's the first time that I've ever had hypnosis, and I've always been one of them ones that’s like ‘That won't work on me’,” he said.

“I can't remember it being made, so it's going to be really weird to sit and listen to the outcome of that.”

For Van Outen, therapy has made her realise that she needs to be more open about those things that annoy her, something she’s not managed to do in previous relationships.

She told Thornton: “I've been guilty of it in past relationships — just letting things go — but those small things become something much bigger further down the line. I've learned that if something is bothering me, I'm just going to say it in the moment.”

While Boxshall was initially nervous about doing the sessions for fear it would 'open up a can of worms', he’s become a real therapy convert and urges anyone who has issues in their relationship to seek some help.

“If anyone's going through any issues, and there's no way out or it's a dead end, it’s not,” he stated.

As well as standard couples therapy, the pair will be trying more alternative sessions, such as laughter therapy!

“Do the therapy sessions, and then you'll realise if it's a dead end or not — but hopefully they will find and reroute you as a couple.”

Van Outen, who recently quit Dancing On Ice due to a dislocated shoulder, believes anyone thinking about marriage should go through some relationship counselling first.

“If people do it before they get married — if you've been together for a number of years — then hopefully you should be able to get married and sail through wedded bliss!” she advised.
