Denmark and Germany to transfer 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine

Poulsen noted that Denmark would hand over tanks that had been in storage since 2005 after being decommissioned.

According to the minister, the Leopard 1 tanks will be ready for use in Ukraine by June 1.

The training of Ukrainian tankers will last for about a month, he added.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on April 28 that Ukrainian tank crews had already started training on Leopard 1 tanks.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on April 27 that 98% of the promised combat vehicles had already been delivered to Ukraine and Kyiv “now has the military capabilities it needs to recapture territory.”

On April 21, the 11th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group took place at the U.S. Air Force Ramstein base in Germany. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the participants had agreed to intensify supplies of air defense systems and ammunition to Ukraine.

The Pentagon chief also reported that over the past several months, Ukraine’s partners had transferred over 230 tanks and more than 1,550 armored vehicles, considerably bolstering Kyiv’s ability to counter Russian aggression.
