Airports Council International World announced Tuesday the 10 busiest airports worldwide for 2022, with the top four holding their positions from 2021.

  1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport: 93.7 million passengers, a 23.8% increase from 2021

  2. Dallas Fort Worth Airport: 73.4 million passengers, 17.5% increase from 2021

  3. DIA: 69.3 million passengers, 17.8% increase from 2021

  4. Chicago O’Hare Airport, 68.3 million passengers, 26.5% increase from 2021

  5. Dubai Airport: 66.1 million passengers, 127% increase from 2021

  6. Los Angeles International Airport: 65.9 million passengers, 37.3% increase from 2021

  7. Istanbul Airport: 64.3 million passengers, 73.8% increase from 2021

  8. London Heathrow Airport: 61.6 million passengers, 218% increase from 2021

  9. New Delhi Airport: 59.5 million passengers, 60.2% increase from 2021

  10. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport: 57.5 million passengers, 119.4% increase from 2021

Air traffic passenger numbers trending up since pandemic

  • The resumption of international travel in 2022 helped global passenger traffic reach nearly 7 billion passengers, an increase of 53.5% from 2021 and 73.8% from 2019.

  • The top 10 airports for total passenger traffic represented 10% of global traffic and collectively a gain of 51.7% from 2021 and 85.9% recovery from 2019.
