Depot District parking project progresses

RICHMOND, Ind. — Steps are being taken to add Depot District parking.

The city plans to tear down the former Mechanics Laundry building at 1002 N. E St. to create a parking lot. On Thursday, the Board of Public Works and Safety approved a contract related to that project.

TRC Environmental Corp. of Cincinnati will provide consulting and technical support during pre-demolition activities. That includes environmental testing and demolition specifications for the building's remediation and demolition. The cost is not to exceed $29,800.

The Mechanics Laundry building is notable for its train mural. The building is just east of the renovated depot building and its baggage building.

The parking lot is planned for 50 spaces that would complement 66 on-street spaces and existing off-street parking.

Also Thursday, the board approved a contract with A&M Construction Solutions LLC to provide on-call repair and maintenance services for Richmond Fire Department buildings. That includes all five fire stations and the South Eighth Street training and physical fitness center.

Development: Land purchases will create Midwest Industrial Park's 3rd phase

The contract calls for payments of $45 per hour and a 15% material markup fee.

A&M was the only bidder for the contract.

The fire truck will cost $1,563,773, including department inspections and delivery. 911 Fleet and Fire Equipment was the only bidder when bids were opened May 12.

RFD has already replaced four fire trucks during the past five years. New Engines 2 and 4 were delivered late during 2017, a new rescue pumper was received during 2019 and a new Engine 3 was delivered late last year.
