The Tazewell County Board swore in Michael Deppart of Pekin as a District 1 representative during Wednesday’s meeting.

Deppart is currently president of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau. Tazewell County Board Chairman David Zimmerman noted that his perspective will be a key asset to the board because agriculture is a vital part of the county’s economy.

“The largest industry in Tazewell County is agriculture,” Zimmerman added. “So, having a representative of our largest industry is very important.”

Deppart replaced Wayne Altpeter on the board. Altpeter resigned his seat last month because he is moving out of District 1.

“It’s a great honor to be part of the board,” Deppart said. “There are a lot of issues to work on here, and we’ll see what transpires. I don’t really have any goals at this point, but agriculture’s key to this area and I want to make sure to protect that and keep the farmers in mind.”
