Deputies investigating injuries to 18-month-old child in Marshall Township home

MARSHALL TWP. — Police and state officials are investigating injuries sustained by a baby in the 15000 block of West Michigan Avenue Wednesday.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the home at 4:40 p.m. for a welfare check and found an unresponsive 18-month-old child.

The caller said the child had fallen from a standing position and was unconscious, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The child was transported to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, where additional injuries were discovered, and then to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The child is listed in serious condition.

The sheriff’s office and Child Protective Services staff from the Department of Health and Human Services are investigating the incident. No arrests have been made, police said.
