Deputy Chief Declares Lyon Lane House Fire a Total Loss

Sep. 22—THOMASVILLE- Smoke could be seen billowing from a mobile home on Lyon Lane Friday morning as crews from Thomas County Fire Rescue, Boston, Coolidge and Ochlocknee worked to extinguish the flames.

According to Thomas County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Bob Duthoy, investigators suspect the fire originated from an electrical source. However, the investigation is still ongoing and Duthoy said investigators intend to visit the property at least one more time, if not more.

Duthoy said with help from the other units, they were able to put the fire out quickly. Unfortunately, even with the quick response, Duthoy said the mobile home is a total loss.

"The structure had been modified," he explained. "They basically put a metal roof on top of another metal roof and we had to drill through the metal to get to the fire trapped in between the two roofs."

Luckily, no one was home at the time of the incident.

Duthoy said they have offered the family help through the Red Cross, but investigators are still working to make physical contact with them.

Duthoy thanks the 15 personnel who responded to the fire, stating it was a team effort.
