Deputies responded to a mental health call Friday in south LA where a man who said he wanted to kill himself brandished two knives and eventually charged officers.
AMY JOHNSON: Well, a man is in the hospital this morning after he was shot by an LA County Sheriff's deputy last night in South LA. Now according to the Sheriff's Department, deputies answered a call about a man who wanted to commit suicide. This all happened around 8 o'clock, and they arrived and found the man holding a knife in each hand.
For two hours, deputies say they tried to get the man to drop the knives. Investigators say he eventually charged the deputies, who tried to stop him with a less lethal stun round and Tasers. Investigators say when those didn't work, a deputy shot him. The man was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
