Last month, a neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, wanted to make sure Hall County Sheriff’s Office Dep. James Newton was recognized for going above the call of duty.

The sheriff’s office said Newton was called to help an elderly man who fell in a ditch while trying to cut his grass.

Newton was able to help the man back up while making sure the mower was secured, according to authorities. But the deputy didn’t stop there.

On Newton’s day off, he reportedly went back to the elderly couple’s home and mowed their lawn.

Officials said he also did some yard work and has been back to check on the couple multiple times. The family told the sheriff’s office the couple has tried to pay him for mowing, but Newton refused.

“We’re proud to have Deputy James Newton on our team and thank the anonymous individual who shared the story with us,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.
