Deputy rescues woman from fiery car in heart-pounding bodycam footage

A Georgia sheriff’s deputy is being hailed a hero after the release of heart-pounding bodycam footage showing a fiery car rescue.

In the video shared by Chandler County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Ashleigh Taylor can be seen responding to a motor vehicle crash reported on Highway 46 in Metter, Georgia on Saturday.

Upon arrival, Taylor beelines for the thick brush lining the side of the highway, fighting through greenery to reach a car that appears to be already engulfed in smoke. Upon spotting a person inside, Taylor uses a baton to break the driver side window while shouting warnings to the driver, telling them to unbuckle their seatbelt and get out of the car.

Taylor then appears to grab car keys from the screaming woman inside and uses them to unlock the door just as flames erupt from the bottom of the car and ignite the greenery underneath. Taylor can be seen pulling the seemingly disoriented woman from the vehicle and dragging her away from danger.

Upon asking if any anyone else was in the car, Taylor receives an unclear answer that sounds like a possible “yes.” He then rushes back towards the black smoke and breaks a rear window in search of a passenger but luckily finds no one trapped inside.

A bystander arrives to look through the driver’s side door before the two determine there is no one else inside. The good Samaritan then assists Taylor in helping the woman through the woods, back towards the road to await emergency services.
