Deputy, tow truck driver taken to hospital after being hit on side of highway in Conyers

Authorities to Channel 2 Action News confirmed that two people, including a deputy, were involved in a crash on Thursday night.

Conyers police said its officers were responding to the side of Interstate 20 East at exit 84 to the scene of a crash involving a deputy and a tow truck driver.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol also responded to the scene.

Deputies said at 9:11 p.m., a deputy sitting in his vehicle was with a tow truck driver who was changing a flat tire when they were both hit on the side of the highway.

The deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and the tow truck driver was also taken to the hospital.

The extent of the driver’s injuries is unknown at this time.
