Derek and Benjamin are the first babies born in Windsor-Essex in 2024

The year 2024 is off to a sweet start for two local families who welcomed the first babies of the New Year at local hospitals on Monday.
Windsor Regional Hospital says the first baby delivered in 2024 at the hospital was baby boy Benjamin Skye Rollins, the second child of parents Jacqueline and Kyle. He was born at 9:49 a.m.
It's a little later than the hospital typically sees its first birth of the New Year, which usually takes place overnight. But the new parents say they were enjoying a movie at home on New Year's Eve before heading to the hospital in the morning of Jan. 1.

At Erie Shores HealthCare, parents Zoila Ruiz Alceda and Jose Gonzalez welcomed baby Derek Eduardo at 4:52 a.m.
"The birth of Derek Eduardo is a wonderful blessing for us to start the New Year," the parents said. "We are grateful to the exceptional care team at Erie Shores HealthCare for making our experience so memorable."
