Record-breaking defensive tackle Derrick Brown will be the lone representative for the Carolina Panthers when the Pro Bowl Games take place in Orlando this weekend.

But he’s not alone in franchise history.

In fact, he adds to a decent legacy of Panthers who have earned one of the NFL’s top honors.

Brown is the 39th player to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl as a Panther, according to the team’s game notes. The leader in tackles among all defensive linemen in the 2023 regular season was originally listed as a first alternate when the list was published earlier this month, but an injury to Aaron Donald launched him onto the NFC roster.

Of the 39 players to have made the Pro Bowl while playing for the Carolinas’ franchise — which began in 1995 — seven players were named to the team at least five times. One player, linebacker Luke Kuechly, was named to the Pro Bowl a remarkable seven times.

Here’s a list of the franchise’s all-time Pro Bowlers.

Seven-time Pro Bowler: Luke Kuechly

Only one player has earned seven Pro Bowl nods in Panthers franchise history, and that’s the aforementioned Luke Kuechly. The most amazing part? It’s conceivable he could’ve had more, considering he left at the top of his game. The linebacker, who anchored a stalwart defense during the best years of the tenure of Carolina’s all-time winningest head coach Ron Rivera, retired after the 2019 season at 28 years old — still considered the prime of his career. He’d later say that a lot of factors went into his retirement. Among them: “I just knew that, you know, I had given everything that I had.”

Kuechly joined the Panthers Radio Network team in 2022.

Five-time Pro Bowlers: Steve Smith, Julius Peppers

There are six five-time Pro Bowlers in Carolina Panthers history. That includes the franchise’s best receiver of all-time and current NFL Network analyst, Steve Smith, as well as Hall of Fame finalist pass rusher Julius Peppers.

  • Offensive lineman Ryan Kalil: 2015, 2013, 2011, 2010, 2009

  • Wide receiver Steve Smith: 2011, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2001

  • Defensive end Julius Peppers: 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2001

  • Tight end Wesley Walls: 2001, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996

  • Wide receiver/kick returner Michael Bates: 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996

  • Offensive lineman Trai Turner: 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015

Three-time Pro Bowlers: Cam Newton, Greg Olsen

Eight of the Panthers’ 39 players who’ve made the Pro Bowl did so three times. That includes legendary linebacker Thomas Davis, tight end (and rising FOX color commentator) Greg Olsen and the best quarterback in franchise history Cam Newton.

  • Linebacker Thomas Davis: 2017, 2016, 2015

  • Tight end Greg Olsen: 2016, 2015, 2014

  • Running back Mike Tolbert: 2016, 2015, 2014

  • Quarterback Cam Newton: 2015, 2013, 2011

  • Offensive lineman Jordan Gross: 2013, 2010, 2008

  • Linebacker Jon Beason: 2010, 2009, 2008

  • Defensive lineman Kris Jenkins: 2006, 2003, 2002

  • Punter Todd Sauerbrun: 2003, 2002, 2001

The Panthers won, 34-27. All four of the players were inducted into the team’s Hall of Honor at halftime of the game.

Two-time Pro Bowlers: Brian Burns, Mushin Muhammad

There are only three Panthers who’ve earned Pro Bowl distinctions twice — and one is current pass rushing star Brian Burns, who missed the mark this year but hit it the previous two years. Burns will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

  • Linebacker Brian Burns: 2022, 2021

  • Wide receiver Mushin Muhammad: 2004, 1999

  • Defensive lineman Kawann Short: 2018, 2015

Christian McCaffrey only made the Pro Bowl once in Carolina?

The rest of the 39 Panthers to make the Pro Bowl — 21 to be exact — have only made one trip. That includes quarterback Jake Delhomme, who led Carolina to a Super Bowl appearance, and one of the team’s first starting quarterbacks in franchise history, Kerry Collins. The biggest surprise, though? Running back Christian McCaffrey only made one Pro Bowl with the Panthers. Part of that speaks to his injury history in Carolina — but it’s surprising nonetheless, especially considering the MVP-caliber season he’s putting together in San Francisco this year.

It’s worth noting Dan Morgan, the team’s newly hired general manager, earned a Pro Bowl distinction with the Panthers in 2004.
