Nashville is grieving on Monday.

Three children and three adults were killed following a mass shooting at The Covenant School in the Green Hills area of Nashville, Metro police said Monday. A white female shooter, 28, entered the school via a side entrance after 10 a.m. Monday with two assault rifles and a handgun. It was unclear how the shooter, once a student at the school, knew how to get into the school building.

The shooter was fatally shot by police about 14 minutes after the first 9-1-1 call, Metro police said.

"I was literally moved to tears to see this as the kids were being ushered out of the building," Metro Nashville Police Department chief John Drake said during a Monday press conference.

"It could have been far worse."

The Titans released a statement via Twitter on Monday about the shooting, saying: "We are heartbroken by the senseless loss of life at Covenant School today. We offer our condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and the entire Covenant School community."

Titans running back Derrick Henry said he was "heartbroken and sick" over the shooting.

Titans safety Kevin Byard was among several current and former Titans to give their thoughts on Monday's incident.
