Apr. 18—Des Moines Christian's first-half goal held up against Newton on Thursday at H.A. Lynn Stadium.

Kaitlyn Mumm scored the match's only goal and the Lions won 1-0 during a non-conference match. Jenna Roberts had the assist for Des Moines Christian, which improved to 4-0 on the season.

Newton (4-3) could not score on one of its five shots on goal. The Lions had 14 shots on goal and Newton junior Aurora Nehring had 13 saves.

"It was a tough loss," Newton coach Abby Lamont said. "We needed better passing in the middle and offensive third. We seemed rushed after we possessed the ball but had a few opportunities to capitalize on goal and just couldn't put it away. Our defense played outstandingly well, playing incredibly well under pressure as well as Rori in the goal."
