Des Moines Driver Watches as Huge Hail Cracks Windshield

Huge hail hammered parts of Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, August 19, smashing windscreens and causing damage to vehicles.

Footage by Larin Stewart shows hail stones pummelling his windshield, causing cracks. Stewart can be heard saying “they’re the biggest hailstones I think I’ve seen.”

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Friday afternoon and warned of quarter-sized hail.

Flash flooding was also reported in the city, which caused road closures, Des Moines police said. Credit: Larin Stewart via Storyful
