A Des Moines economic development coordinator will take lead role in West Des Moines

A new community and economic development director will start in West Des Moines next week as the person he's succeeding prepares to retire.

West Des Moines announced Wednesday that Ryan Moffatt will lead the city's community and economic development department once Clyde Evans retires July 17. Evans has served as the director there for 32 years.

Moffatt has worked for the city of Des Moines since 2005, most recently as an economic development coordinator specializing in downtown and corridor redevelopment. He also has been a project manager and senior city planner in Des Moines.

Prior to his work in the capital city, Moffatt was a regional planner with the Mid-Iowa Development Association Council of Governments and has degrees from Iowa State University and Drake University.

Moffatt will start in West Des Moines on June 12, giving him a month to work with Evans and visit with site selectors, according to the city's news release. His annual salary will be $154,000.
