Roosevelt High School's library and track and field will undergo needed upgrades following a multimillion-dollar donation.

The $3.3 million donation is part of the Theodore Roosevelt High School Foundation's capital campaign to raise money for the school's new track and synthetic turf field, and remodeling the school's library, according to a news release. The foundation is made up of alumni and parents.

The school also received donations from Polk County Community Betterment grant, Prairie Meadows Legacy grant, and MidAmerican Energy. District funds were also used.

“Our success should tell every student at TRHS that their community is invested in them and that we believe in their potential,” said Jackie Norris, one the foundation's chairs and a Des Moines School Board member.

Construction on the outdoor projects has already begun and should be completed later this summer, said Principal Steven Schappaugh. The track and field will be part of the newly named Randy Duncan track and field complex.

Library construction is expected to begin next spring.

"I think it says a lot about the community buy in to what Roosevelt is doing and the support of our alumni and neighbors to make it all happen," Schappaugh said of the donations.
