Des Moines Symphony plans free Whitney Houston, Hollywood-themed Labor Day performances
The Des Moines Symphony wants you to dance with somebody
The city's premier orchestra will perform scores from Whitney Houston and Hollywood movie soundtracks in the outdoor Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park on Sept. 3 and Sept. 4, respectively.
The shows, part of the third Water Works Pops concert series on Labor Day weekend, both start at 7:30 p.m.
Broadway standout Rashidra Scott will join the symphony on night one to sing legendary hits from the late Whitney Houston, including “I Will Always Love You” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”
Night two will feature songs from famed movie soundtracks including "Star Wars," "The Wizard of Oz," "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Jurassic Park."
