Des Moines teen thought to have been riding in a pickup truck bed killed in rollover crash

A Des Moines teen believed to have been riding in the bed of a pickup truck was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Just before 11 p.m., deputies were called to a report of an accident in the 3500 block of NE 86th Avenue. They found a Chevrolet Silverado on its top in the ditch, a news release said.

Investigators believe two teens – a driver and a passenger – were in the cab of the pickup, and three teens were riding in the truck bed, the release said. Evidence and statements indicate the truck was traveling westbound on NE 86th Avenue when it lost control, entered the north ditch and rolled.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene; the four other teens were not injured, the release said.

Those involved are not being identified because of their ages, according to the release. The investigation is ongoing.
