Desalination plants are the answer to drought, but California politics make it unlikely

Finally, a realistic proposal for water to the parched West: desalination.

I agree we need a plant in Eureka, California, and San Diego or Baja (depending on the politics). The one in Eureka would feed into Lake Shasta just 80 miles away. That lake feeds the Sacramento River that flows South to almost Bakersfield.

The other plant would feed into Lake Mead. Lake Mead and Lake Shasta would be filled and the desal plants would operate on an "as needed" basis. They would be powered by

small nuclear power plants.

Sounds great except as long as the electorate of this state keeps voting in liberals in Sacramento with their environmental cohorts, I can see no future. What do I do when sand comes out of my shower head?
