DeSantis: Jan. 6 is 'Christmas' for mainstream media

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) called the Jan. 6 Capitol attack "Christmas" for media organizations based in Washington D.C. and New York, adding that he would not be watching coverage of the day because he found it "nauseating."

When asked his thoughts about the one-year Jan. 6 anniversary Thursday, DeSantis instead criticized the media for their coverage of the attack. He added that "there is an obsession with this among the DC-New York journalist class" while referring to the Jan. 6 anniversary.

DeSantis said he believes the media can "spin" a "narrative that they want."

"They are going to take this and milk this for anything they could to try to be able to smear anyone, whoever supported Donald Trump," he added.

He further criticized the anniversary events planned by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and said he doesn't "expect anything good to come out of anything that Pelosi and the gang are doing."

He added that he will not be watching the coverage of the day and said "I think it's going to be nauseating, quite frankly, and I'm not going to do it."

DeSantis, who is up for reelection in 2022 and is among a contingent of Republicans who could run for president in 2024, compared the coverage of the Jan. 6 attacks to the 2017 shooting at a congressional baseball practice, saying the latter had not been covered as aggressively the riot.

He added that comparing the riot to the Sept. 11 attacks was an "insult to the people who were going into those buildings."

According to DeSantis, "it's an insult to people when you say it's an insurrection, and then a year later, nobody has been charged with that."

"I think it's going to end up being just a politicized Charlie Foxtrot today," he said.
