Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday released plans for his proposal to provide discounts on tolls for frequent commuters across the state.
This follows his short-term savings program he put in place last month.
If state lawmakers approve this latest plan, the 50% discount could mean an average savings of $550 a year.
Under DeSantis’ new plan, if you use SunPass or EPass transponders and pass through them at least 40 times a month, you could have your tolls cut in half.
If approved, the proposal could begin on July 1, 2023. It’s expected to benefit approximately 750,000 Floridians who frequently commute and would save the average commuter around $550 a year.
DeSantis said if the proposal was approved, the Florida Department of Transportation would simply provide an automatic credit every month, and users would see it on their bills.
