The all-inclusive playground project for Hendersonville’s Jackson Park has an official design.

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners reviewed the playground equipment plan, prepared by Barrs Recreation out of Pittsboro, at Wednesday’s commissioners’ meeting.

The suggested age range for the playground is 2-12, and the total user capacity is 294. The plan includes climbers, swings, slides, ramps, play panels and more.

Business and Community Development Director Christopher Todd told commissioners the construction of the playground should be complete this winter, with a ribbon cutting target date around Easter of 2023.

The construction of the playground is broken up into four phases. The total equipment price is listed at $245,916. This price does not include freight, unloading, material storage, site excavation/preparation, removal of existing equipment, removal of excess soil from footing holes, site security, safety surfacing, installation, or sales tax (if applicable), according to the plan presented to commissioners.

The total cost to build the all-inclusive playground is estimated to range from $500,000 to $600,000. Earlier this year, the state granted $200,000 for playground equipment for the project. A $150,000 tourism grant through the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority will also go toward the playground.

Other fundraising efforts are being led by the Hendersonville Elks Lodge in partnership with Special Needs Sports, and Henderson County Parks and Recreation.
