This designer turns celebrity red-carpet dresses into bridal wear
When it comes to choosing a wedding dress, there has to be something that makes you think it’s ‘the one’, whether it’s by your favourite designer, holds a special meaning or it just feels like you were destined to wear it. But, dress designer Romona Keveža is giving us all another reason to fall in love with bridal wear.
Many influential A-List women have graced the red carpet wearing her eponymous label, from Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga to Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lopez, among others. And now, the designer is adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to weddings by redesigning some of these celebrity dresses into bridal wear, meaning you could be twinning with Jolie on your big day.
“I received a request from a VIP that wanted to have one of my black evening gowns done in white for her wedding," she tells me. "That’s what started my company 18 years ago. Then in 2003, Julia Roberts wore my dress, so we started getting requests from stylists and celebrities asking if we can we convert these dresses into colour.”
“I was doing this for celebrities and then the next thing I knew I had a whole line,” she says. "We have both – a luxury price-point ready-to-wear collection that we show in New York and also a bridal line, so it comes full circle.”
Keveža's label is defined by a signature style that's feminine, sophisticated and luxurious. First launched in 1999, it's since become a highly respected luxury bridal and ready-to-wear brand. The designer prides herself in being different to many of the big household names, as she doesn't endorse or approach anyone to wear her designs on the red carpet. Instead, they come to her.
“It’s women supporting women,” she points out. "People wouldn't be wearing my dresses unless they authentically related to the dress.”

“I’m not one of these large corporations that pays an actress millions of dollars to endorse my product, people buy my dresses because they love them and they wear them because they love them.”
This goes hand in hand with her success in bridal too. The everyday woman wants the opportunity to indulge in the world of red carpet, so her dresses do just that.
“[My dresses] offer a peek into the world of celebrity,” she explains. “There’s the glamour of Hollywood and there always will be, it goes back to the 1920s with flash mobs going and beautiful jewellery, stunning hair and the leg coming out of a limousine that is just timeless. Everyone wants to live that life even if it is vicariously through the TV."
But she admits that bridal fashion has only really taken off in the past 15 years or so, as more brides are starting to want a bit of individuality when it comes to their big day. This is at the forefront of her mind when she’s designing for her clientele that’s all over the world: “I have the 4 different archetypes.”
