No. 1 Gonzaga had no issues rolling past No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday.
The Bulldogs jumped out ahead of the Knights almost instantly and cruised to the 87-49 win at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
Despite the 38-point loss, though, one Fairleigh Dickinson senior was still able to end his collegiate career in style.
Nadi Beciri, the Knights’ 6-foot-7 forward, battled injuries all year long and hadn’t played in a game since November. So, while down 40 points with just a minute left in the game, Fairleigh Dickinson coach Greg Herenda put the senior in the game.
Just 30 seconds later, Beciri caught a perfect outlet pass on a fast break and expertly finished the layup, drawing a foul in the process.
Naturally, he and the team loved it — and Beciri wasted no time tracking down Herenda before giving him a big hug in front of the bench.
What a perfect way to end your basketball career.
