Despite high gas prices many Americans are traveling for the 4th of July weekend

As the 4th of July weekend approaches many Americans are preparing to travel for the summer. But with gas prices that touched a national average of $5.00 not long ago, how many people will hit the road versus those who chose to stay home?

The Vacationer, a news service specializing in travel experiences and vacation planning, conducted a July 4th survey to get answers. Here’s what they found through their results:

1. Do you intend to travel for Fourth of July this year or Fourth of July weekend? If so, how?

Yes, primarily by plane. – 9.13%

Yes, primarily by car. – 42.62%

Yes, primarily by public transportation such as bus or train. – 3.69%

No. – 44.56%

The most likely age group to say they will travel for the holiday this year were those aged 18-29. 68.62% of people in this age group said they will versus 64.77% in the 30-44 aged crowd they said they will not. 50.55% of American adults aged 45-60 surveyed said they will travel while only 35.96% of people over age 60 will.

2. Will high gas prices affect your Fourth of July travel plans?

Yes, because I want to drive. – 36.99%

Yes, because high gas prices are affecting airfare prices. – 13.40%

No. – 49.61%

55.95% of Americans living on the West Coast surveyed, including Alaska and Hawaii say gas prices will affect their travel plans. More than 50% of all American adults say gas prices will affect their Fourth of July travel plans this year.

3. Will you take a road trip for Fourth of July or Fourth of July weekend this year?

No. – 47.77%

Yes, within 100 miles of my home. – 26.50%

Yes, within 200 miles of my home. – 13.88%

Yes, within 500 miles of my home. – 7.86%

Yes, within 1,000 miles of my home. – 2.43%

Yes, more than 1,000 miles from my home. – 1.55%

4. What activity are you most likely to take part in for Fourth of July this year?

Parade. – 4.17%

BBQ or Cookout. – 41.07%

Fireworks. – 30.00%

Beach. – 11.75%

Sporting Event. – 2.04%

Movie Theater – 3.88%
