Despite high WA state gas prices, many stations in Pierce County have deals. Here’s a map

The average price of gas has continued to decrease over the last month in the U.S. The national average went from around $3.66 in mid-April to its current $3.53 per gallon for regular-grade fuel, according to AAA. At this time last year, the national average gas price was $4.52 a gallon.

Washington’s prices are moving in the opposite direction, though. The state’s overall median cost jumped from mid-April’s $4.44 per gallon to the current $4.59 average. The only states with higher prices for gas than Washington state are California, Arizona and Hawaii.

Residents in western Washington, including those in Tacoma and the south Puget Sound region, carry much of the burden of the state’s high fuel costs. Pierce County’s average price has gone up 11 cents just in the past month, up from $4.51 in mid-April to $4.62 as of May 17.

As gas prices continue to rise in Washington, consumers should know where to find the best deal for fuel in their local areas. Fuel economy website GasBuddy provides information on locations selling cheap gas.
