A Destination Wedding with Classic California Style at Park Hyatt Aviara Resort

Tell us the story of how you met and got engaged!
From the bride... Jake and I met back in high school - he was my very first boyfriend! We remained friends but it was always something more, and we were always going back to each other. This went on for 11 years! We began officially dating again in 2016 and got engaged just a year later. Jake proposed to me on top of Daou mountain in Paso Robles, California. And as Jake says, "I knew in my heart that all these roads were leading me back to you. I have loved you since I met you, and I always knew you would become my wife."
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day?
Jake did not want to see me until I was walking down the aisle, but I really wanted our vow reading to be intimate. Instead of a first look, we decided to read our vows back to back right before the ceremony! It was such a raw, emotional moment that we got to share together, and not being able to see each other made me even more excited to walk down the aisle.
Tell us about the location and style you chose and why.
I really wanted an intimate wedding but due to the size of our families, it wasn’t going to happen. So I wanted to make the ceremony and reception feel as intimate as possible! We share a love for wine country but couldn’t have our wedding there. So we wanted to incorporate wine in a unique way!
That’s how we came up with our escort card display as mini wine bottles. We also brought in our own wine from a small winery in Paso Robles to share with all our guests! We chose Carlsbad for our wedding because we both went to school in San Diego and my mom lived in Carlsbad for years. We created beautiful memories there and the tiny little town feels like home to us.
Any tips for brides currently planning their wedding?
I was so nervous that everything would go wrong, and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. I hate that I wasted so many nights stressing over what was the best day of our lives!
