Details of coach Kirby Smart's new deal worth more than $112 million released by Georgia

Georgia football coach Kirby Smart’s 10-year contract worth $112,500,000 total is fully guaranteed for the next five seasons.

Smart would receive 100 percent of the total unpaid contract through Dec. 31, 2031 if he is fired without cause anytime in the first five years, according to an amendment to the contract received Thursday in an open records request that was effective on Jan. 1.

If termination happened on or after Jan. 1, 2027, 85 percent of his total compensation would be owed to Smart.

His previous deal that ran through 2024 stipulated that Smart would be paid 65 percent of his total remaining compensation if he were fired without cause. He received more than $7 million last year before bonuses and was due annual increases.

Georgia would have owed Smart $14.6 million if he was fired on Dec. 1 of last year. If they were to fire him on Dec. 1 this year, he would be owed $102 million.

Smart received a major boost in salary starting this year to $10.25 million in the first year of the after leading Georgia to its first national title since 1980.

If Smart were to resign, he would owe Georgia the following:

--$5 million anytime before the end of calendar year 2024.

--$4 million in calendar year 2025 through 2027.

--$3 million calendar year 2028

--$2 million in calendar year 2029

--$1 million in calendar year 2030 or 2031

Smart is eligible up to $1.525 million in bonuses this season, up from $1.15 million previously.

Smart would get $100,000 for reaching the SEC championship game or $300,000 if Georgia wins it.

Reaching the College Football Playoff is worth $500,000 and winning a semifinal game brings an additional $250,000 and the national championship win would be another $250,000 for $1 million total. Other bonus money comes from academic performance of his team.

Smart will get up to 50 hours of flight time per year on a light jet for non-business travel for family or guests. That’s double what was in his previous contract. That perk in 2018 was said to be worth about $130,000.

Smart is entering his seventh season in 2022 with Georgia and has made two national championship games and won one SEC championship.
