Details on opening day for Wichita’s new Nordstrom Rack, a bargain shopper’s paradise

Next week will be a big one for bargain shoppers in Wichita.

The long-awaited Nordstrom Rack, which is taking over 28,000 square feet on the south end of Bradley Fair, will open its doors to the public at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 25. The chain’s grand-opening celebration will include snacks and gift card giveaways.

Nordstrom Rack, a store in the vein of T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s, sells clothing, shoes, beauty supplies and home decor from Nordstrom stores and from top brands Nordstrom carries at savings of up to 70% off. The chain has 247 stores across the United States and Canada. Until now, the nearest stores to Wichita were in Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

“This has been a highly requested offering by our community that will make a wonderful addition to our selection of existing retailers,” said Amanda Stiebens, Bradley Fair’s marketing manager.

Wichita’s Nordstrom Rack is moving into the space at 1800 N. Rock Road that’s just to the east of Trader Joe’s. The space was the home of Wichita’s original Bed Bath & Beyond, which operated there from 2000 until it relocated to Greenwich Place in 2016.

Nordstrom Rack recently introduced a new logo inspired by its logo from the 1970s and 1980s.

According to a release, Nordstrom Rack has first dibs on Nordstrom merchandise and gets to it before other off-brand stores. It also gets several deliveries a week, so the merchandise is always different.

The first Nordstrom Rack opened in 1973 and served as a clearance center below the Nordstrom in downtown Seattle. A decade later, the first stand-alone Nordstrom Rack opened in Oregon. Others followed as the chain expanded nationally.

The store’s hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
