Detroit Free Press Marathon announces MSU Federal Credit Union as sponsor

The Detroit Free Press Marathon announced Friday that MSU Federal Credit Union is its new presenting sponsor for this year’s race.

The East Lansing-based company has 22 branches and over 1,100 employees. It will soon open a branch in downtown Detroit at 243 W. Congress St.

Susi Elkins, the credit union's chief community impact officer, said in a news release she looks forward to the sponsorship and further working in Detroit.

“We are proud and excited to be the presenting sponsor of the 46th Detroit Free Press Marathon, furthering our commitment to the Detroit community and providing us with a unique opportunity to support the marathon runners as they achieve their dreams,” Elkins said.

The Detroit Free Press Marathon, taking place Oct. 13-15, is the state’s largest road race and the only one to cross international borders twice. Besides the marathon, the event includes a half-marathon, U.S.-only half marathon and marathon relay; competitive 1-mile race, 5K, and the Meijer Kids Fun Run.

“We are delighted to welcome MSU Federal Credit Union as the new presenting sponsor of the Detroit Free Press Marathon,” said Aaron Velthoven, vice president and executive race director. “This is a tremendous partnership for us; we are excited to showcase MSUFCU’s impact within the community and build awareness amongst our participants and running community of their strong presence right here in Detroit.”
