Two players fighting for back-end roster spots suffered injuries on Day 2 of Detroit Lions training camp that will keep them out of practice Friday.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said undrafted rookie running back Greg Bell hurt his back and hip on the second-to-last play of Thursday's seven-on-seven session.

Bell was injured running a pass route, and clutched near the back of his leg as he crumbled to the ground.

The Lions brought a cart out to help him off the field, but he walked gingerly to the locker room with the help of trainers.

Bell is scheduled for further testing Friday.

Tight end Devin Funchess suffered what Campbell indicated was a minor groin injury late in practice.

"It looks pretty optimistic, but he won't be out there today," Campbell said.

Lions got plenty of hype this offseason. But here's why I'm not buying it yet ]

Jermar Jefferson, Craig Reynolds and Godwin Igwebuike should get extra running back reps in Bell's absence as they compete for the No. 3 running back job behind D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.

The Lions have seven remaining healthy tight ends in camp.

Campbell opened his pre-practice news conference Friday by sending condolences to the family of ex-Lions safety William White, who died Thursday after an extended battle with ALS.

White played safety for the Lions in 1988-93, on the same defense as Lions special assistant Chris Spielman.

"I think anytime when you’re a part of this profession, this brotherhood and you hear news like that, it does, it hits pretty hard," Campbell said. "And I know for Chris this is hard. Chris was close to him as well, but certainly thinking about him and his family. All that are involved."
