Detroit TV Meteorologist Jessica Starr Takes Her Own Life

Detroit’s local WJBK Fox 2 television station is reeling after the channel’s meteorologist, Jessica Starr, took her own life in an apparent suicide.

“Last night we were informed of the heartbreaking news that our friend and colleague, meteorologist Jessica Starr took her life,” the station said on Twitter Thursday. “All of us here are in shock and cannot believe such a wonderful, bright and intelligent individual will no longer be with us.”

Starr, 35, had maintained active social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook after before her death had spoken about her difficulty recovering from Lasik SMILE eye surgery in October.

“Yesterday was a struggle for me. I really wanted to come back but I need more time to recover. Please keep me in your thoughts during this challenging time. Will keep you updated,” she said in her last Twitter post almost a month ago.

On air Thursday, Starr’s colleagues expressed their own shock and disbelief after her passing, rereading the channel’s statement and talking about their own feelings.

“Our hearts are broken. Last night we were informed our Jessica Starr took her life,” said colleague Amy Andrews. “Her Fox 2 family is deep shock and cannot believe such a wonderful, bright and intelligent woman is gone. Keep her family in your prayers in the coming days as we all deal with our grief.”
