Detroit Pistons finalizing roster after active week of moves, waive center Dewayne Dedmon

Four days after acquiring him in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, the Detroit Pistons have waived center Dewayne Dedmon, a league source confirmed to the Free Press.

It's the first of what will likely be several moves intended to pare the size of the roster down and maneuver under the salary cap, following an active week of trades, signings and drafting.

The Pistons traded Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas, one of their two second-round picks in 2018, for Dedmon, who has two years and $26.6 million remaining on his contract. However, only $1 million of his contract is guaranteed during the 2021-22 season.

There are now three centers on the ever-fluctuating roster: free-agent signees Mason Plumlee and Jahlil Okafor and first-round draft pick Isaiah Stewart.

Detroit will also reportedly waive guard Zhaire Smith, who they acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.

The Athletic Detroit initially reported that the Pistons are waiving Dedmon.
