Game notes: Ah forget the NFL playoffs, the reigning Western Conference champion Suns are in town. They own the NBA's best record, led by the backcourt duo of Chris Paul and Devin Booker, and are 2-0 on their current road trip with wins over Toronto (99-95) and Indiana (112-94), and own the league's best road record (15-4). Against the Pacers on Friday, Booker — a Grand Rapids native — had 35 points and Deandre Ayton supplied 27 points and 12 rebounds. Booker averages 23.7 points and shoots 40.9% on 3-pointers, Ayton averages 17.1 points and 11 rebounds and the 36-year-old Paul contributes 14 points, 10 assists and two steals. He has played in all 41 games this season. Phoenix owns the No. 9 offense and No. 2 defense; the Pistons are last in offense, 22nd in defense. ... The Pistons are 5-3 in the new year, coming off Friday's 103-87 shutdown of the Raptors. ... The Suns defeated the Pistons on Dec. 2 in Phoenix, 114-103, with seven Suns scoring in double figures. Jerami Grant scored a game-high 34 points for the Pistons, but remains out after thumb surgery as his name continues to circulate in trade rumors. During Phoenix's trip to Detroit last January, the Pistons pulled out an OT upset, 110-105, led by Grant's 31 points. ... The Pistons begin a four-game Western road trip Tuesday at Golden State, then face Sacramento (Wednesday), Utah (Friday) and Denver (Sunday). Set your morning alarm — or recording — accordingly.
