The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will wrap up its 2022-23 Monroe County Community College concert series this week.

The DSO has performed at MCCC all year as part of its William Davidson Neighborhood Concert Series. The final installment is at 8 p.m. June 16 in the Meyer Theater, La-Z-Boy Center at MCCC, 1555 S. Raisinville Road.

The two-hour performance will feature Beethoven’s fifth piano concerto, “Emperor,” played by pianist Shai Wosner.

“(The song) moves from heroic grandeur to quiet reflection before erupting in a boisterous dance,” the DSO said.

Born in Israel, Wosner had a broad musical education from an early age and later studied at The Juilliard School. Today he lives in New York.

Also on the program are Mason Bates’ “Garages of the Valley” and Paul Hindemith’s symphony “Mathis der Maler,” which was inspired by the work of a German Renaissance painter.

“It’s full of transporting brass sonorities,” the DSO said.

The concert’s conductor will be Francesco Lecce-Chong, who has been called a “fast-rising talent in the music world,” the DSO said. He is the music director of the Eugene Symphony in Oregon and the Santa Rosa Symphony in California.

The William Davidson Neighborhood Series brings the DSO to neighboring cities. Other stops in the series this year are in Southfield and Beverly Hills.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children. For tickets, call the DSO Box Office at 313-576-5111 or visit dso.org.
