Detroit teen drowns at Summerfield's KOA

A Detroit teenager drowned at the KOA Campground in Summerfield Township Saturday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 15-year-old Jaylen Christopher Hill from Detroit.

Deputies responded to the campground's swimming pond around 5:20 p.m. after receiving a call that the teen had been missing for about 20 minutes and his last known location was in the swimming pond.

Members of the sheriff's office and the Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and began a search of the swimming pond. The sheriff's office Dive Team was also activated and responded to assist with the rescue efforts.

Deputy Dave Moore was the first dive team member to arrive on scene. Within minutes, Moore located the victim. The campground is located at 15600 Tunnicliffe Road.

Paramedics with Monroe Community Ambulance transported the teen to Toledo Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. Monroe Community Ambulance along with one of the Sheriff's Office chaplains also assisted at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by Deputy Yuchuck of the Uniformed Services Division. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Deputy Yuchuck at (734) 240-7534.
