Game notes: The Tigers lost yet another series, this time to the Chicago White Sox, coming into Monday; Detroit lost two of three to the Toronto Blue Jays to end July and have yet to win a series in August. Though they've split a couple of four-game sets, the Guardians haven't lost a series in more than a month (July 8-10 vs. the Kansas City Royals). That span includes two sweeps of the Tigers and a pair of wins this weekend vs. the Blue Jays.

Civale was dominant vs. the Tigers in May but allowed two runs in four innings last week vs. Detroit. This will be just his third start since July 13. Riley Greene, Harold Castro, Javier Baez and Eric Haase all reached to help the Tigers score those two against the Civale in a long fourth inning. But it wasn't enough as the Guardians scored three times in five innings vs. Hutchison and the bullpen salted away a 3-2 win. Hutchison gave up eight hits while battling through five and was done in early by a leadoff triple followed by an RBI single from Tigers-killer Jose Ramirez. A pair of runs in the second inning was all the offense Cleveland needed.

The series ends with night games Tuesday and Wednesday.
