HELP WANTED: Tyler Nevin hit .500 in Triple-A Toledo. Now, he plans to contribute for Tigers

Game notes: Happy birthday, Zach McKinstry! OK, not really — the CMU alumnus doesn’t turn 28 till April 29. But he gets an early birthday present — assuming he’ll be in the lineup — with this matchup against Chris Bassitt; of his 12 career big-league home runs, two have come off Bassitt. On June 3, 2022, while playing for the Dodgers, McKinstry launched an 88.7 mph cutter 376 feet to right field for a two-run blast. Three months later, the uniform was difference — McKinstry was a Chicago Cub — but the result was similar: McKinstry crushed a 93.8 mph sinker 423 feet to right for another two-run shot.

After tonight’s series finale, the Tigers return to Comerica Park for a six-game homestand, starting with the Giants at 6:40 p.m. Friday. If you’re not headed to the Tigers’ first night home game of the season (under new LED lights, no less!), you’ll have to dust off that Apple TV+ login info from last season; the game is online-only on the streaming service. The Jays, meanwhile, remain at home for a visit from the Tampa Bay Rays, who we’ll note — once again — are MLB’s final unbeaten after taking three straight from the Red Sox.
