Game notes: You may have heard the Mariners ended North America's longest playoff drought (among the four major pro leagues) over the weekend — the Mariners' wild-card berth will be their first postseason spot since 2001 — so expect a lively environment at T-Mobile Park. After some mid-September struggles, including a 4-9 stretch, Seattle won four straight over lowly division rivals Oakland and Texas before finally dropping Sunday's season finale, 10-3. Likely American League Rookie of the Year Julio Rodriguez (27 home runs and 25 stolen bases) could play soon after a back injury and slugging infielder (and ex-Tiger) Eugenio Suarez (31 home runs) recently returned to the lineup.

The Tigers counter with Garcia, who hasn't pitched in the majors in more than a month. He got a win Aug. 15 vs. the Cleveland Guardians, allowing three runs over six innings. The series continues with a straight doubleheader Tuesday starting at 6:10 p.m. before finishing up at 4 p.m. Wednesday to end the 2022 season.
