Game notes: The Tigers have locked down a winning record in July, with wins in 14 of the 25 games so far. But a win today could give them 15 wins in a month for the first time since May 2018, when they went 15-14. They'll have to do it against the Orioles' ace, though, in John Means. The lefty no-hit the Mariners in Seattle — like that's tough, eh, Spencer Turnbull? — on May 5. In his seven starts since then, he and the O's have been quite mortal; Means has a 4.91 ERA with 23 strikeouts over 36⅔ innings, while Baltimore has gone 20-50 with only eight wins on the road. Then again, one of those eight came Friday night against the Tigers at Comerica Park: A 4-3 win in which the Tigers' bats snoozed until the eighth inning.
Tigers lineup:
CF Derek Hill
2B Willi Castro
SS Zack Short
RF Victor Reyes
P Matt Manning
