Detroit woman wins $1 million Powerball prize

We finally know the owner of a Powerball ticket sold in Detroit that won $1 million this month.

As the Powerball jackpot ballooned to more than $2 billion in November and people eagerly bought tickets for a shot at cash, several purchased in Michigan won $1 million prizes — including one in Detroit.

Forty-six-year-old Tonisha Jenkins of Detroit purchased a ticket at K&G Deli located at 5626 Conner St. in Detroit that matched the five white balls drawn Nov. 5 — 28-45-53-56-69, according to the Michigan Lottery.

“I don’t usually play Powerball, but I started purchasing tickets because of how big the jackpot was,” Jenkins told the Michigan Lottery. “The day after the drawing, I got on the Michigan Lottery site to check the winning numbers and saw that a $1 million winning has been sold at K&G Deli. I got excited since that was where I purchased my ticket, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. When I checked my ticket and realized I was the winner, I couldn’t believe it. I called my sister right away to tell her the good news!”

Jenkins plans to use the money to remodel her home.

“Even though it’s been a few weeks since I won, I am still just as excited as when I found out,” Jenkins said.
