Developer of high-end apartments sues Sacramento to block homeless housing project

The suit comes after city leaders voted this week to ask the state for up to $12.5 million to buy the Hawthorn Suites hotel on Bercut Drive and convert it into permanent housing for the homeless. The effort is part of the state’s Project Homekey initiative for people living on the streets of Sacramento, and the money comes from federal CARES Act funding, which has to be spent by the end of the year.
