Development plan for Clarksville Wawa store approved

Oct. 6—CLARKSVILLE — The development plan to bring an East Coast staple convenience store to Clarksville has been approved.

Wawa, known for its fresh hoagies, salads, smoothies, food and coffee, is set to go into the same space at 1354 Veterans Parkway that previously housed Red Robin and Ruby Tuesday restaurants.

Construction on the store, which will also have gas pumps and EV charging stations, is expected to take about nine months.

Wawa approached Clarksville's Board of Zoning Appeals in March, asking for a use variance to allow the operation of a gas station.

The board approved that variance.

"Clarksville is a great connector to Louisville and a great corridor," Wawa Real Estate Manager Lisa Corpus said to the News and Tribune in March. "It's got lots of retail, it's popular and we want to be part of the community."

Clarksville isn't the only place in the region where a Wawa store is planned.

News and Tribune partners WAVE-TV reports the brand plans to open four stores in Louisville, a store in La Grange, Kentucky and a store in Mt. Washington, Kentucky.

WAVE-TV reports Wawa President Brian Schaller said the company is investing in states like Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.

"Each store will bring an estimated 35 to 40 jobs," Schaller said. "Each store is a six- to nine-month build project with at least 140 contractors and skilled laborers, so we're excited about that contribution economically."

Schaller said the locations in the region should open by 2025.

The News and Tribune has contacted Wawa for comment about the Clarksville store.
